What is workplace welfare?

Well-being in the workplace is derived from situations and perceptions that members of our company hold. In other words, it is the set of sensations and feelings of an employee towards the company and, above all, towards their work environment along with the actions that we can carry out, as leaders, to improve it.

The better these perceptions are, the greater the degree of satisfaction of our team and the degree of commitment they will have to our company.

In addition, workplace well-being influences the mental health of our team both positively and negatively, so it can affect our company if we do not promote a good work environment.

There is a phrase that reflects this situation very well and is addressed to business leaders: “Take care of your team and your team will take care of your company.” It is a reality that few see, but it is essential for our company to continue to evolve.

Why is well-being at work important?

In recent years we have experienced a socio-labour change that has put people’s mental health and well-being at the forefront. It is increasingly difficult to find talent because, although there are a lot of candidates out there, working conditions and quality of life influence when signing for a company or changing from one to another.

However, investing in workplace well-being has a series of benefits that are not so obvious, but are very powerful at the business level. Let’s see them:

How can I improve the well-being of my employees at work?

Although in this article we are going to mention three measures that could be adopted to improve the well-being of our team in the company, there are more. We can even come up with some new ones because of the situation we have in our own organization. The important thing is not to lose sight of the main objective: that our team feels comfortable in their job and that we are promoting the importance of mental health at work.

Create more flexible structures

It means leaving behind the concept of “job” and instead embracing “role within the company”. And what exactly does that mean?

It refers to giving workplace freedom, with the option to go into the office or work remotely from anywhere in the world. The only thing that is required is that the person makes sure that they can carry out their duties without any problem. This brings us to the next point:

Humanized digital transformation

The creation of more flexible structures implies a digitalization of processes, that is, creating a structure that allows remote work, maintains good communication between team members and, above all, that guarantees the effectiveness of the processes that are carried out in the company.

Logically, the difficulty of implementing these changes will depend on the company and the work it does. However, it is a system that offers a workplace freedom that teams value and if coordinated well, it is just as effective as 100% face-to-face work.

Foster relationships between team members

Creating a good work environment favours well-being within the company. If the teams know each other not only on a professional level, but also a little beyond work, bonds of trust are created. That trust in co-workers makes teams work with less stress and therefore be more productive. This can be encouraged with team building workshops, for example.
